Self-Evaluation Sheet

Use this sheet to write an evaluation to turn in with the final version of each of your essays for this course. Save this sheet to refer to each time. Use a separate sheet for your answers, handwritten or typed.
1) How does this essay compare in quality to the best essay you have written previously?
2) List the strengths and weaknesses of your essay, as you see them.
3) What would you do to improve it if you had more time?
4) How much time did you spend drafting it?
5) Is your goal to increase or decrease your time on your next essay?
6) Where did you get your one-on-one help, and how did that work for you?
7) Did you spend more time looking for your research or in applying it to your paper?
8) What breakthrough did you have in drafting this essay? (A breakthrough means getting past a block or achieving a new level.)

Read and complete each editing task as follows:
  Highlight the THESIS in the opening paragraph.
  Number each piece of evidence that supports the claim.
  Circle the evidence used that supports the claim.
  Underline the counterclaim twice.
  Circle the evidence used that supports the claim.
  Highlight the conclusion to be sure the thesis has been restated.
  Draw a star next to every indentation. There should be a new indentation every time a new paragraph is started (there should be 4).
  Put question marks over words that have questionable spelling. 
  Put a dot under the first word in each sentence to be sure your peer has varied sentence structure.
  Write the number of sentences in each paragraph in the margin beside each paragraph.

Briefly advise your peer as to what information should be added to each paragraph.
